Compost Processing System:
The compost processing system is comprised of the following equipment:
- shredder (S1)used in tearing open plastic bags of mixed waste and reduce the size of items, waste, as required;
- shredder discharge conveyor (C2) – used in carrying materials from the shredder (S1) over the magnetic head pulley where ferrous metals will be discharged onto the ferrous transfer conveyor (C3) and to the sorting conveyor (C4);
- ferrous transfer conveyor (C3) used in carrying materials from the shredder discharge conveyor (C2) to a storage container;
- sorting conveyor (C4) used in carrying materials from the shredder discharge conveyor (C2) past two sorting stations where aluminium, glass, and plastic containers can be manually removed, to the trommel (T5);
- trommel screen (T5) used for separating over-sized non-organic items from organic items in the mixed waste;
- transfer (C6) and residue (C7) conveyors used in carrying oversized materials from the trommel (T5) to a residue container;
- mixed feed conveyor (C8) used in carrying organic waste to the mixer;
- mixer (M9) to blend organic materials with water, as required;
- mixer discharge conveyor (C10) used in carrying blended organic wastes to the shutter feed conveyor (C11);
- shuttle feed conveyor (C11) to deliver material to the shuttle conveyor (C12); and
- shuttle conveyor (2 -C12) which can be positioned to load organic waste evenly onto an empty tray in each tunnel.

2.1 List of Items of Equipment at the Waste Treatment Plant
- (a) Acta Crusher Type KS5-6-15 with Manufacturing No. 0-404- 41/99.33090.
- A crusher consists of the following:
- 1 frame with attached filling hopper. 1 el-controller.
- For each screw unit of the crusher (standard):

- 1 spur gear GETRIEBEBAU NORD type SK9382ASVG with gear ratio 1:100,9
- 1 el-motor NORD (SIEMENS) 160l4 15 kW with foreign ventilat. Directly bolted on spur gear, 380V, 50Hz, protection IP55. (Option: 18.5kW or 22 kW el-motors).

The frame is made from hollow profiles (RHS) and bottom plate of 12 mm plate. At the discharge end (outlet pipe and rotating and fixed knife) highly wear resistant steel is used. The filling hopper is constructed from hollow profiles (RHS) and 4 mm plate.
The crusher is available as standard with 1-, 2-, 3-, 4- or 6- screws. The screws are manufactured from sections case in a manganese/nickel alloy. The screws are secured by a cantilever system i.e. only fixed to one bearing. Depending on the application, the frame can be open at the outlet end or provided with 2 fixed knives. If the frame is provided with an outlet ring, the screws can also be provided with rotating knives, each with from 1 to 11 cutting edges. The quantity depends on the size of the reduced material.
The vanes of the screw has 10 short teeth (can be mounted with long teeth as well), welded on, to secure the transport of the material.

Each screw has its own power unit, spur gear with el-motor. The spur gear is mounted on the bearing through a hollow shaft with clamp ring.
(b) Conveyors (C2, C3, C4, C6, C7, C8, C10, C11, C12, C13 and C14)
A number of conveyors which were provided to move mixed waste through the various stages of processing and into the composting tunnels.

(c) SCHLITZ-O-MAT MSW 1 Opening and Emptying Machine for plastic sacks with Feed Hopper and Moving Floor Conveyor. The SCHLITZ-O-MAT is a stationary machine which is exclusively determined for:
- - opening and emptying plastic sacks or bags filled with waste and/or recyclable materials;
- - dosing loose materials to be passed on regularly to sorting or recovery units.
The feed hopper with moving floor conveyor is a stationary mounted machine, which is directly connected to the SCHLITZ-O-MAT. This is particularly designed for the use with plastic sacks and bags, which are filled with waste and/or recyclable materials. It is important to note that, the waste and/or recyclable materials referred to above are packing material, plastic bottles, household waste or biologically degradable waste.

(d) Shredder comprises of one UE-45 Heavy Duty Industrial Shredder, complete with an Enclosed Support Stand & Delivery Chute, Safety Hopper and an Electrical Control Panel.
The shredder is powered via two 15kW electric drive motors, and is designed to shred a variety of waste products for the purposes of recycling, or purely for volume reduction. The shredders counter-rotating hexagonal shafts run at approximately 30 & 25 RPM, and are driven by two 3-Phase Induction Motors coupled to suitable Reduction Gearboxes, via the shredder gearbox. The enclosed hopper is fitted with a safety curtain, which helps to prevent product ejection.
