Triumph Dolomite Sprint attracted a not insignificant £6360.

As is usually the case, the site for Morris Leslie’s latest classic car auction in Errol in rural Perthshire was jam-packed with both cars and machinery for sale and a large crowd of buyers, who were more than willing to part with their hard-earned cash to purchase new projects or new classics to fill spaces in their collections, writes Michael Young.

As is the norm there was a car for every budget, from a 1989 Reliant Rialto GLS, which sold for £645 including premium, to the 1969 Mercedes-Benz 600, which sold for £43,460 – ready and raring to go conquer a country! However, someone in the room obviously had a slightly smaller taste in cars, as a 1971 Fiat 500 sold for £3445.

In between these extremes there were many cars and some commercials to choose from. The 1977 R-reg Triumph TR7 made £820 while a more modern sporty two-seater, but just as unusual, was the 1989 Series 3 Alfa Romeo Spider, which made £4558: That car reminds your scribe of Dustin Hoffman in the “Graduate” film though the TR7 would be more suited to your scribe’s style – and wallet.

The variety on offer is perhaps best illustrated by the ERF lorry that sold for £3200, the trio of MKII Escorts or perhaps a seat for your tractor, plus a stash of old car magazines to read while you are restoring your new acquisition, which your scribe thought would go for much cheapness, but which actually went for £75 quid including premium.

A warm and sunny Saturday afternoon ended with over 100 of the 192 lots entered sold. So a busy day, but a successful one for the Morris Leslie team. Once the sale was over the back room team at Morris Leslie burned the midnight oil and converted many of the provisional sales, thus bringing together buyers and sellers and moving the metal.

The team at Errol continues to build on the excellent reputation they have built up in selling classic and historic vehicles. A warm welcome awaits one and all for the next auction, scheduled for March next year.
